I appreciate the information via email before the arrival, the possibility of parking nearby, the kindness of the host and the location of the house. In addition, it was great to find in the kitchen all we needed and the amazing views from every window. The pictures faithfully show the house.

The house Sol Nascente (Rising Sun) owes its name to the good sun exposure in the morning, flooding the house with a magnificent light. It is located in the centre of the city of Coimbra, between Penedo da Saudade and the Botanical Garden, a 15 min walk from the University and the historic centre, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. It is an old renovated house, located in a quiet area, set back from the access street and with a fantastic view over the city. Guests can access the entire space in complete privacy. The house is not located in a building with floors, it is a detached house with two floors. The bottom floor has 1 double bed bedroom, 1 bedroom with 2 single beds, 1 completely equipped kitchen and 1 entrance/living room. Upstairs there are 1 bedroom with 2 single beds - that can be transformed into a double bed, one double bed bedroom and a third bedroom with 1 single bed and an extra bed for children. Upstairs there are also a complete bathroom and an half bathroom. It is ideal for groups of tourists and families with children who want to visit Coimbra and also for professors and students who want to attend conferences or short courses at the University.
We are three, brother and sisters, all of us teachers, who decided to share an old family home, however renovated, and make it available to anyone who wants to enjoy the city for short periods of time. We do our best to give guests a wonderful stay, where the details are very important. From time to time, the family stays at the house, to be with our parents who live close by, experiencing and evaluating the stay as guests. In an exceptional time like the one we live in, an independent house is an asset for our health and safety, as well, as for the guests. We try to provide as much information as possible, prior to booking, so that guests always know what to expect. They can use all bedrooms, even if it is only a group of 5 or 6 people, thus allowing each one to have its own room. We always have a gap of 48 hours between stays which allows late check-out. It also gives us plenty of time to check the cleaning services.
The house Sol Nascente is surrounded by beautiful houses and small apartment buildings, as you can see on the virtual maps. Steps away, uphill from the house, is the melancholic Penedo da Saudade. Downhill, the University and the Historic Center are 15 minutes walk from the house and the best way is to go across the magnificent Botanical Garden (one of the garden gates is 2 minutes from the Sol Nascente house) passing through the old aqueduct, “Arcos do Jardim”. Also a 15-minute walk downhill is Praça da República, the meeting point for students, with its cafes and terraces, where you can also find a bookstore, a pharmacy, a tourist office, an ATM, a post office. and a kiosk. Here you can also visit the Jardim da Sereia. To the city center (Baixa), with many historic monuments, cafes, restaurants and shops, you can easily walk: either from Praça da República, walking down Avenida Sá da Bandeira, or from the University, walking down through the Historic Center. Although the house is on a hill (like the University), it is very easy to return uphill, either walking, or taking very inexpensive taxis or one of several buses that pass nearby (bus103 stops in front of the house).
