We love welcoming guests to our renovated holiday cottage, over 100 years old, but with all modern amenities to make your stay enjoyable, as we adore living in Portugal it is wonderful to share our enthusiasm for the area with guests and, hopefully, give them a really lovely experience of this undiscovered part of Portugal, it’s rich history and beautiful landscape. We are always available to offer help and advice on activities, places to visit, local culture, events and festas. We also love introducing guests to our chickens, 2 ducks and Nigerian dwarf goatcalled Blackie as well as our Pavarotti our donkey. We are a short walk from the lake. Our swimming pool is for the exclusive use of guests, pool towels are provided. The cottage is spacious, cool in summer. hair dryer and security safe are provided. We have introduced additional hygiene protocols, this will mean that we will have to remove certain items such as the pool toys and Lilos. Deep freeze, barbeque and bread oven are available for guests use.
We love entertaining and helping to give guests a great experience of the area, both of us enjoy sharing our home and cottage; Paul is passionate about rugby and restoring his Mazda MX5, motor racing and blues music is a firm favourite, in fact music generally. Susan loves her garden and growing salad and vegetables although finding this a challenge in a new climate, both adore their animals as well as the two cats Tabitha and Crookshanks, who will often be seen patroling the gardens. Susan also enjoys craft work, cooking, entertaining, traditional jazz, spending time with friends and both Susan and Paul love a G and T whilst floating round the pool on their Lilos! They operate an ‘open house’ for anyone who wishes to call in to enjoy a drink and some company. Both are passionate about the Knights Templars history of this beautiful area of Portugal and take part each year in July, in costume, in the Festa Templarios. Susan and Paul also enjoy Steampunk, Susan makes their costumes and with friends have recently taken part in a Steampunk Festival locally. To live in Portugal was their dream they fully appreciate every day in their new found Paradise which they enjoy sharing.
Lovely quiet area ideal for relaxing and de-stressing but only 10 minutes from the delightful Mediaeval town of Tomar, famous for the UNESCO world heritage site of Convento de Cristo, home to the Knights Templars of Portugal and for a time the base of the great discoverer Henry The Navigator. Within easy travelling distance is the important religious site of Fatima; Obidos the delightful romantic walled town is not far, the coast is just an hours drive away, Nazare, Sao Martinho de Porto and many others. Lisbon is just an hours train ride. The area is full of history, culture and music, summer time is Festa Time. There are many restaurants in Tomar offering a selection of delicious local food, sea food is wonderful or try the delicious Pastel De Nata. The fabulous lake of Castelo de Bode is a short distance away offering a variety of water sports, lovely river beaches and delightful scenery, swim from the pontoons at Aldeia de Mata or Lago Azul, see the stunning Dam, explore Villa de Rei, Dornes and many other lakeside villages. The amazing Festas dos Tabuleiros held once every four years is a must visit event attracting over 1 million visitors to Tomar.
