Huis Roomolen is a small studio and has its entrance on the second floor; 17 steps take you up. Three large windows give a nice view over the Roomolenstraat. The size of the studio is 25m² including a private kitchen, shower, and toilet. The private roof terrace of 10m² at the backside is enclosed by the neighboring buildings. The entire house was built in 1790 for the working class; our building once contained 3 large families. Please keep in mind that the staircase is in a typically old Amsterdam style; steep and narrow. Please don't bring very large suitcases, better use two smaller ones as the building have no elevator. The ground (first) floor of the building is a garage. Cameras in front of the building and in the hallway provide your security. The door entering the studio has no locks, which a municipal ordinance provides us with, it’s a health and safety code. You and we are the only persons using the building, we will definitely not enter the studio during your stay. The place is very warm and personal, perfectly suited for a single traveler or couple to retreat as well as to discover Amsterdam.
Mel & Henri, the owners, are communicative and friendly hosts, living on the third and fourth floors of the building. Henri has retired and used to teach design and Mel works as a chef. We also own a holiday property in Accra Ghana run by our nephew Wisdom, there at Villa Nelomoor, we can host up to eight guests. In Amsterdam, we don't serve breakfast but the neighborhood has a lot to offer; very lovely restaurants where that serve quality breakfasts and brunches. Please consider our neighbors; our area contains many families with small children and students. No private parties in the studio are allowed. Please no loud music or loud voices in the studio or on the roof terrace. Please leave your pets at home. Due to our price policy, we have many non-refundable bookings. We advise everybody who makes a non-refundable booking with us to take out travel insurance as well. Insurance companies will refund your travel and booking costs when there is an official travel ban or another serious reason to cancel your booking.
It is located at Roomolenstraat in the center of Amsterdam a little street between canals yet in the middle of things. In a historic residential area that originates from the 16th century. Designated as the famous Unesco heritage canal belt. Very quiet neighborhood. Five minutes walking from central station Amsterdam; where all public transport is available. Most cultural destinations at walking distance. Many design boutiques, restaurants, coffee shops, and cafes are around the corner. Parking in nearby parking garages.
