Everything about Caprese Michelangelo is outsized, extraordinary, and exceptional. Hailed as the birthplace of Michelangelo, the great Renaissance painter, architect and poet, Caprese’s legendary place in history goes back to the Etruscan and Roman times. This small yet iconic town continues to be a place of cultural and historical significance, attracting art enthusiasts, historians, and travelers from all around the world. We simply call it HOME, and you can too. As our guests, you will have access to IL VIGNO's various facilities, such as the Bar and the Big Oak Terrace where not only your daily breakfast is served, but afternoon aperitif is also offered, the al-fresco kitchen and dining area, pool & lounge, The Farm where we grow our own vegetables, herbs, and microgreens, the Olive Grove, Fruit Orchard, and Aromatic gardens are located. You can also meander your way to the riverside and spend a quiet afternoon in the shade if the pool is not your scene. You will also have access to our "workspace" and the Library where you will have high-speed internet/Wifi. The Library is also available for 'family-style" private dinners for up to 8 people.

The name “IL VIGNO” simply means “the vineyard’ or “the vine”. But there is nothing simple or ordinary about this vineyard. While Tuscany is home to many world-renowned vineyards, IL VIGNO is located in a region in Tuscany known for its ‘marrone’ or sweet chestnut, moss green forests, rare truffles and honey-producing orchards. You will find no other vineyards nearby. IL VIGNO is an oddity. An improbability. An unexpected find. By change or design, Mother Nature carved out a niche for this odd little vineyard. Blessed with just the right ‘terroir’ — climate, soil, terrain, and good fortune — IL VIGNO thrived and brought unimagined abundance and prosperity to the community. Today, you can still find traces and the terraces of the old IL VIGNO. While the vineyard is no more, the name remains and the story continues. IL VIGNO is still an improbable oddity, an unexpected joy. Come and let it surprise you.

Il Vigno is surrounded by protected forests, centuries old Marrone or Sweet Chestnut groves that are famous the world over, and countless hiking, walking and biking trails that start at our doorstep. The choice of places to visit in the area is rich. In the immediate vicinity, in addition to the birthplace of Michelangelo Buonarroti, is home to a museum, it is possible to visit the Sanctuary of Chiusi della Verna, a mystical place where San Francesco d' Assisi received the stimmates or the splendid Anghiari, which recently obtained the title of "One of the most beautiful villages in Italy." Monterchi and Sansepolcro boast some of the most representative works by Piero della Francesca such as: The Madonna of the Birth, The Resurrection and the Polyptyt of Mercy. Reachable in less than one and a half-hour drive are important cultural centres such as Perugia, Gubbio, Città di Castello, Arezzo, Rimini; while in less than a two-hour drive you will be able to visit the world-famous Tuscan cities such as Siena and Florence.
