Passer Domesticus is a two storey 1924 historical building, reborn into a unique compact living space for short term habitation. IMPORTANT ! Passer Domesticus is a GROUND LEVEL SHOP, reborn into a very unique apartment, an awarded project which published on lots of architectural and lifestyle books and magazines. It still retains its glass-front window, so that the guest has an immediate contact and experience with the outer level. Designed and operated with much love and personal care by the design studio 157+173 designers, Passer Domesticus becomes a little oasis inside the urban environment, a nest to host all romantic urban nomads.

Hello, I am Babis. I work as an architect / designer in our studio 157+173 designers. I am overdriven by the experience of meeting new places and people. Hosting people is the "art" of making somebody feel cozy & comfortable and i feel like i can really get into the others place and mind for this. I like to stay in personalized and unique places myself which have traces of the past. I am interested in details of life and small things that happen while we live along. I feel comfortable when I am at both natural or urban, interesting environments. I enjoy resting in non crowded places and i go into quiet little cafes and bars with friends, searching for the very basic stuff of life: warmth and nice coffee! I enjoy watching cinema and read Japanese literature. I have a big cat Shrink, and a small one, Tail.

After the city’s big fire of 1917, which destroyed almost the entire of Thessaloniki’s centre, the district was rebuild with a simple and repetitive architectural typical model: Two storey small buildings, with basement, internal steep stairs and a flat roof where built, of 4x4 or 4x8 meters floor plan, continuing facades and newbyzantine windows devided with small decorative external columns with capitals, like Passer Domesticus. The majority of those buildings, dated around the 1920, where occupied by immigrant tradesmen, who came with their families from then known as Anatolia and different parts of Europe to open their local business, resulting into the creation of a market neighbourhood. Up to this day, most of them are left non occupied or used as storages, others operate as touristic tavernas while very few still host trade activities. Passer Domesticus building belongs to the territory of the famous commercial market of the “Bezesten”, the Ottoman fabrics and gold market, which was build in the15th century.
