Sydney House Bed & Breakfast in Cromarty is run by Alasdair & Shirley Matheson. Sydney House is situated on in the centre of Cromarty on the High Street, and is a traditional Georgian merchants house, built in 1849. It was originally known as “Watt’s Temperance Hotel”. Sydney House has been renovated to a high standard whilst maintaining many original features. Great care has been taken to provide comfortable furnishing in the guest rooms, all of which are en-suite. Sydney House offers warm, comfortable en-suite rooms with tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryers, Wi-Fi access and digital TV's with DVD players. Each room has a comfortable seating area. On a cold morning enjoy your full Scottish breakfast by the coal fire in the dining room. After a bowl of porridge, you may sample some haggis with your cooked meal. All ingredients are locally sourced. If you have special dietary requirements please let us know when you book. We do not allow smoking. We are unable to accommodate pets.

Shirley and Alasdair are both locals and Sydney House has been in the family since the 1930's. We can help with lots of local information. We love gardening, cycling, walking, reading, music and films.

Cromarty is architecturally important for its Georgian merchant houses that stand within a townscape of Georgian and Victorian fisherman's cottages in the local vernacular style. It is an outstanding example of an 18th/19th century burgh and is known as the jewel in the crown of Scottish Vernacular Architecture. Go for a stroll around the town, wander along one of the beaches and visit the harbour or go for a bracing walk around the Sutors and onto Macfarquhars Bed. You can visit the award winning Cromarty Courthouse Museum, see Hugh Miller's Cottage and the new Miller House Museum and visit the finalist in Restoration Village 2007 - Cromarty's East Church. The great outdoors are on the doorstep making Cromarty a great destination for outdoor activities especially dolphin watching.
