Our beautiful country cottage on the banks of the Scaur river is a peaceful retreat from the hustle bustle of everyday life. There are endless walks in all directions from Penpont, by going to the end of the garden, you can wander into the hills without seeing a soul, enjoying peace and tranquility. Drumlanrig Castle is only 3 miles away with it's beautiful gardens and woodland. The Seven Stanes are within easy reach, the Forest Ae is the closest being 11 miles away. Andy Goldsworthy's Striding Arches are also worth a visit, some require a strenuous walk whilst others are accessible by car. Edinburgh and Glasgow, are as always worth a day trip, each around 1 hour 40 minutes drive. There are a myriad of things to see on the Solway Coast and the Galloway Forest. You will never be short of things to do in Dumfries and Galloway.

We love our cottage and the surrounding area and want to share this with out guests. We moved here 10 years ago to enjoy mountain biking, fly fishing and walking so can point you in the right direction using our local knowledge and hopefully learn things from you too.

Thornhill is 2 miles away, there are 4 cafe's, 2 pubs, 2 hotels with bars and restaurants, small supermarkets x 2 and a post office. There is a Chinese take away and fish and chip shop and various small business, clothes boutiques, ironmongers, gift shops, hair dressers and beauticians. There is also a small filling station. Thornhill has a bowling club, golf course and excellent fishing in the River Nith. The Southern Upland way passes through Dursideer and the hills above Thornhill.
