The Moorings is a comfortable family cottage located close to the sea in the village of Fairbourne, Gwynedd. Built over a century ago, it has been in our family for over 60 years and has seen many changes. Accommodating up to 10 people, it was refurbished for holiday letting in 2018, but retains many of its period features, which can be dust traps so please make some allowances. The original fireplace in the dining room has been updated with a modern woodburning stove, but the window seat and ceiling beams remain. A new table and sideboard aim to fit with the old bureau which houses maps and booklets for the use of guests. Framed Vermeer prints, and an original oil painting of scenery in Coed y Brenin decorate the walls. An upstairs sitting room, with sofas and a TV, gives great views to the east over the Mawddach Estuary and hills, to the west over the Fairbourne Railway, seawall and the sea beyond, and particularly stunning sunsets when the weather permits. The kitchen is compact but offers a good cooking experience, with fridge/freezer, oven/grill, hob, microwave, slow cooker, as well as a dishwasher and washer/dryer. Crockery and glassware are in the press to the side of the original belfast sink. There are two shower rooms, one being electric, the other using water from the boiler. An additional toilet and sink are found off the main porch. House-trained dogs are welcome by arrangement. Just a stone's throw from the wide sandy beach running into Cardigan Bay which is perfect for sandcastles or kite flying, and with Fairbourne's steam railway passing through the dunes, the Moorings is located at the southern tip of Snowdonia national park with great walks, wildlife and world class mountain biking trails. Taking a ferry across the estuary Barmouth offers classic seaside town thrills with a permanent fair ground, beach activities and a selection of unique shops, or visit Tywyn or Dolgellau for a more traditional Welsh market town.
