Gilderdale is a charming Georgian terraced house located at Townfoot near the centre of Alston. Ideally situated in a quiet spot yet within a few hundred metres of all the town's amenities. Alston is the highest market town in England with a cobbled street lined with quaint & quirky shops, pubs, tearooms and cafes. The rear of the property backs onto the Tyne Willows playing fields and the South Tyne river with uninterrupted views to the fells beyond. The front of the property has views of the old Town Hall, a Victorian neo gothic listed building set in elevated gardens. The ground floor room is spacious with extra seating and dining area and large enough to accommodate 2 extra guests if they don't mind budging up a little bit. Spare bedding and a sofa bed with hinged foam mattress 110 cm wide (43") are available free of charge by prior arrangement. Secure bike storage and luggage storage is free of charge by prior arrangement. It is ideal for independent travellers or those arriving late/departing early as guests may access the room anytime by collecting keys at a key-safe at the front door and breakfast options are left in the room for guests to help themselves whenever they wish

Hello and welcome to Gilderdale. I am Jane, I am a first time Guest House owner, just starting out in the business of running a small B&B. I decided to branch out and become a hotelier after working in Housing and the Homelessness field for a very long time! Currently I live off-site and am only present at Gilderdale when guests are expected or to prepare for their stay I have a key-safe outside the property for guests to collect their room keys if I am off-site, and for those guests who arrive late in the day. Guests can contact me anytime for assistance during their stay and I am around every day and/or whenever needed. A light continental breakfast is included and a variety of breakfast items will be left in the letting room for guests to help themselves whenever they wish. My hope is that all my guests will enjoy their stay at Gilderdale, and love Alston and the Eden Valley and that they will return time after time to enjoy the unique diversity this area has to offer. Gilderdale backs onto the South Tyne river and Tyne Willows fields with uninterrupted views to the fells beyond. Park Fell can be seen from the rear of the property; as can Gilderdale Forest, Scarberry and Benty Hill. There are a variety of good walks and trails nearby offering challenges to those of all abilities. The Pennine Way goes through Alston and is a favourite for tourists as is the Coast to Coast cycle route. The South Tynedale Railway & Heritage Centre is 200 metres away as is Town Cross, the historic town square built 1883. There are old lead mines to explore 4 miles away in the village of Nenthead and local landmarks, like St Augustine's Church. Nearby Alston Moor is home to rare species of birds and plants and designated an Area of Natural Beauty with superb drives through wild terrain and breath taking views. The famous Hartside Top at 1903 feet high is a favourite stop off point and photo opportunity for walkers, bikers & drivers. The area has "Olde Worlde" charm, friendly rustic old pubs, quaint tea and coffee shops, a great outdoor scene and has skiing less than 7 miles away from Alston. Yad Moss has England's longest ski-lift, open in season subject to snowfall!
