Across the road and down the hill, is the lovely sheltered beach, which is complete with a café, and if you fancy climbing the rocks, you will see some fantastic views across the ocean. Torquay is a very popular and historic town with a huge variety of things to see and do. The town centre is only 4 miles away, offering plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. Like most of the towns in the area, Torquay is situated right on the coast, and the main town is just a few minutes away from the nearest beach - Torre Abbey Sands. There are eight other beaches around Torquay, all with unique views across the bay. The town itself is bursting with history, being the birthplace of the famous murder mystery writer Agatha Christie. It also has beautiful ancient caves containing a variety of interesting fossils, World War II slipways in the harbour and Torre Abbey, which was built in 1166 and is the largest surviving medieval monastery in Devon and Cornwall.
