The apartment is located in a charming old building that used to be a silk workshop. Avignon was very famous for his silk trade in the past. The apartment was originally for our son who has since moved to Aix-en-Provence for his studies. This is why we paid a lot of attention to the renovation and chose happy and soft colours to decorate it and make it a cosy place. The old furniture comes from China where we lived for more than 20 years. The apartment is located on the top floor of a two story building. Since it is higher than the buildings around, it benefits from an fantastic view over the rooftops of the neighbourhood around. All the rooms face north with which helps to keep it cool in summer, while the central heating system keeps it warm in winter. Despite the fact that there is no elevator, the staircase are wide enough to comfortably climb up the two floors. No worries for your luggage, Richard will be here to help you carry them upstairs!

Our family live between Avignon and Shanghai, which is why we named the apartment “stop over in Avignon” - we are also kind of travelers here. We are still new to the area but already love it! We appreciate the wonderful food that we buy at the food market Les Halles just five minutes walk away, the relaxed atmosphere of the south of France with its friendly people, charming restaurants with wonderful al fresco dining like on Place des Corps Saints or Rue des Teinturiers, both just nearby. We like to wander around the medieval streets, cross over with the free shuttle boat to Ile de la Bartelasse for a walk, a bike ride or just to go to the Ferme la Reboule to buy freshly harvested seasonal veggies and fruits. We also love to go to the other side of the Rhone river to the huge Saturday morning antique market in Villeneuve-les-Avignon. Our two sons (13 and 18 years old) and I speak fluent mandarin and will be very happy to help our Chinese guests around!

Our old medieval neighbourhood, which used to be the textile district of Avignon, is very charming with Rue des Teinturiers, an old a paved pedestrian street, just around the corner. There you can find lovely little restaurants and bars as well as art galleries next to a small river with a number of old wooden water wheels. Continuing towards Les Halles and Place Pie on Rue de la Bonneterie you can also find a number of interesting local designer shops. Everything in the old city of Avignon is in walking distance through the small medieval lanes and alleys - the Popes Palace, the Pont d’Avignon, Place d’Horlogues, as well as shops and restaurants. As well as this, we are situated in the vibrant heart of the Festival d’Avignon with many theatres located all around. Fortunately, our place is located in a quiet alley which allows you to be right in the centre of the action while enjoying total calm and peacefulness back home!
