This 12th Century house is in a peaceful street near the ancient medieval donjon (tower) which overlooks Montcuq. The centre of town is just a two minute walk away, with cafés, bars and a busy market every Sunday. It would suit couples, families or individuals who might be looking for a quiet place to retreat. The house bears the sign 'Montmartre Boutique' because it was historically a shop when the centre of Montcuq was within the ward of the ancient tower. The wi-fi has recently has recently been updated. Also, after recent difficulties I now have a policy of no pets.

I am an artist based in South London. I spend most days painting, usually as I listen to music, or to BBC Radio 4. I fell in love with France in 1984 when I visited the Dordogne. I have been visiting the Lot Valley and Montcuq for over 20 years and was lucky enough to buy the Boutique in 2004. The house reflects my interest in literature, music (Prokofiev and Ravel are particular favourites) and photography. Happily, Montcuq contains other like-minded people and I am blessed with particularly interesting neighbours in my street!

Montcuq is perfect for anyone who appreciates peace and tranquility - with the option of bars, cafes and restaurants only a short walk away. All the necessary things are there - a boulangerie, a butchers and a pharmacy. You can eat well at the 'Cafe du Centre' or go upmarket at the 'Cafe de France' opposite. There is a stupendous market every Sunday which sells everything you would wish to eat or cook with - look out for the paella stall and the rotisserie selling hot chicken! But this is only half of it, you can also buy clothes, art and furniture. There is also a smaller produce market each Thursday. The area is steeped in history, and the famous tower (spared by Simon de Montfort) is a stones throw away. I would highly recommend the short walk up there, as the views from the top are spectacular.
