The gîte is a comfortable 2 bedroomed cottage. The large well equipped kitchen has a large table, perfect for sitting round with a glass of wine at the end of the day after having eaten raclette or fondue. Meanwhile the kids can sprawl out and watch TV or play board games in the sitting room next door . There's plenty of Sofas. In winter you can of course all snuggle round the wood burner. In the large bedroom, there is a single bed and a double bed. It also offers loads of play space. The other bedroom has a king sized bed. Either room can happily take up to 2 cots. There is also a large single sofa bed in the sitting room, perfect for the older child or auntie Gladys who doesn't want to share with the children. Outside there is terrace with a bar-be-cue and seating. It catches the sun. In the field next to the gîte there are trees to climb, ropes to swing on and a stream to dam. You can even light a small wood fire to cook on, if there's no fire risk. We have the necessary pans. We have a dog and 2 cats, chickens and 2 ewes who like bread. .
We are from the UK and have lived in France since 2005. We live next door to the Gîte. However we bought our house 25 years ago as the renovation project and then holiday home. Harry is a retired plumber and Bridget retired social worker (UK) and Homehelp (France). We both speak reasonably good French. We love the peace and quiet of our rural retreat after the rat race of the UK and get on well with our neighbours. They're a friendly and helpful bunch. We love walking and there are some wonderful places to ramble round here. Harry enjoys pottering and has a tractor that he is doing up. He also makes his own bread and might let you taste if you're lucky. We enjoy food and wine, know all the good eateries in the area and aren't bad cooks. Bridget tries to walk, swim, cycle or go to the gym most days to counteract the food and wine.
Our Gîte is situated in the heart of Brittany. It is in the middle of glorious and peaceful countryside. The lanes are quiet enough that you can let relativity young children explore on foot or by bike without supervision. We have adult bikes and a baby seat, but you will need to provide your own children's bikes. Within easy driving distance are a number of impressive historic sites such as l'Abbye de Bon Repos or the city of Quimper, nor do you have to go far to see Menhirs (Standing stones) and Allées Couverts ( tumulus) . No one should visit this part of the world without seeing one or more deposits of glacial moraine. 20 mins away is the gorge de Corong, where you see pebbles the size of houses. You can go canoeing on Glomel lake, 15 mins, and 5 mins away is the Bourg, Maël Carhaix. There you can take the children to the playground by the lake, where you will find a little beach and the most beautiful public gardens. Lac Guérledan is 25 minutes away. There are numerous local art studios and potteries and you will normally be able to find some sort of concert to go to, breton, rock, jazz or classical. The Veille Charrue (rock festival) is on the third weekend of July.
